RHS Chelsea 2024:
Octavia Hill Garden

Inspired by the life and work of social reformer Octavia Hill

Designer: Ann-Marie Powell
Client: National Trust & Blue Diamond
Show: RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024
Awards: Silver Gilt, People’s Choice & Children’s Choice Award

We were proud to build this 2024 RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden, designed by multi-award-winning designer Ann-Marie Powell for the National Trust and Blue Diamond. Inspired by the life and work of social reformer Octavia Hill, the garden celebrated urban biodiversity and wellbeing. Conceptually located on an urban brownfield site, this beautiful, plant-filled urban community wildlife garden was designed to stimulate physical, mental, and social wellbeing.

The garden increased urban biodiversity and encouraged visitors to feel deeply connected to nature by enabling intimate experiences with plants and wildlife. Built as a series of open-air sitting rooms, visitors were able to experience different views and atmospheres. Sloping level changes, with wheelchair-accessible paths, led to features such as a planted shade canopy, an observation platform, a contemporary wildlife pond, and a walkable stream. These elements provided multiple opportunities to enjoy garden wildlife, feasting on pollinator-friendly planting.

The garden went on to win a Silver Gilt Medal, the inaugural RHS Children’s Choice Award, and the People’s Choice Award.
