Lavender Garden
Inspired by the South Downs Lavender Farm
Garden Designers: Paula Napper, Sara Warren & Donna King
Show: RHS Hampton Court Flower Show 2016
Awards: Gold
This garden was a celebration of the successful lavender farm on the South Downs that attracted thousands of visitors every year. Overturned milk churns and a trough discarded in rough grass hinted at the farm’s previous history as a dairy farm. It tells the story of how due, to market forces, the farm’s owners transitioned to farming lavender for its essential oil. An uplifting plant, known for its calming properties, the farm became a fragrant, peaceful haven buzzing with wildlife. The old feed store was converted into a shop from which lavender products could be sold, and a seating area allowed visitors to absorb the views and scent.
